The Bravery Test storybook, illustrated by Erika Bartos, was created for children with cancer and leukemia. It prepares young patients for the challenging tests and treatments they will undergo, using language and illustrations that they can understand.
The idea for the book came from Erika Cserháti, president of the Érintettek Parents’ Associaton, and it was under her coordination that this wonderful work was created in 2012, at that time still within the framework of the Őrzők Alapítvány (Guardians Foundation).
The Bravery Test Storybook helps parents, doctors, and nurses explain to children what is going to happen to them, answering many questions, including those they are afraid to ask. Erika Bartos’ charming illustrations are completely professional, yet encouraging and reassuring, and are a great help to seriously ill children.
In the shocking situation that families and children face when the illness is diagnosed, this kind of information can be very helpful, alleviating the anxiety associated with the illness and helping them to accept the treatment.
This is a unique publication that fills a gap in the market; no other comprehensive work on pediatric topics has been produced for charitable purposes in Hungary. The book is not commercially available; affected families receive it free of charge at the hospital. The Érintettek Parents’ Association is responsible for reprinting and distributing the books, and the program is financed by donations.
